Product Development and Innovation colleague

“I think, for people in the product development industry, our work has something very special about it. If you’re working on a consumer product – whether it’s a games console, a software app or a washing machine – you don’t necessarily have to think about the high level of security and threat prevention that we do. We’re building robust solutions from the outset, and that adds a level of excitement you don’t really get elsewhere.

“People here are inventing, prototyping, testing – but we’re also going out and doing show-and-tells, installing the product and teaching customers how to use it.”

At the same time, you’ve also got a level of interaction and working with people that you don’t get elsewhere. Our development teams invent, prototype, learn and test – but we’re also heavily involved in doing real life show-and-tells, installing the products, and teaching customers how to use it. You’re actually a part of the final handover to the government bodies we work with.

“What’s incredible here is that you get an understanding of the full lifecycle of whatever product you’re working on. In another business, you might get to work on just the software or the electronics, then you pass it onto a tester, or a manufacturer. You rarely get a chance to see the thing you’ve imagined becoming a reality. At FCDO Services, you really get to lead on it and see it through from start to finish.

“What’s incredible here is that you get an understanding of the full lifecycle of whatever product you’re working on.”

Plus, you’re doing it within an inclusive culture. People in our team have all kinds of needs, skills and lifestyles. Some have young families, or elderly relatives to take care of, or they might have a long-term medical condition. People step up to support each other, and it means you’re empowered and in the right mindset to do your best work every day.”
